THE DEEP : AMP Martial Arts

What do we teach?

TEEN JEET KUNE DO:  

We teach Bruce Lee's Jeet Kune Do Concepts, under the supervision and direct instruction of Professor Roy Harris.  Jeet Kune Do is unique in that it is not limited to one realm of fighting, but rather studies and combines all aspects of aggressive negotiations including elements of:

 

  • Self-defense: via JKD concepts, Krav Maga, and Kenpo Karate

  • Kickboxing/boxing: via Savate, Muay Thai, Western Boxing and Tae Kwon Do

  • Standing grappling: via Wrestling, Judo, Chin Na, and Dumog

  • Ground grappling: via Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Wrestling, and Filipino Modern Arnis

  • Stick Fighting: via Inosanto Kali, Kali Ilustrisimo and Modern Arnis

 

 

 

Our program focuses primarily on the first four categories, with the ability to expand your knowledge into the more dangerous side of martial arts for those who are interested and willing.  We teach only teens 13+, not because we don't like kids or are bad at teaching them, but rather because my instructors and I have simply run out of hours in the day and days in the week.  Come check us out and see a variety of martial arts at play!

 

 

 

BRAZILIAN JIU JITSU:  

We teach Harris Jiu Jitsu, the Brazilian Jiu Jitsu style developed and adapted by Professor Roy Harris, 6th Degree Black Belt under Master Joe Moreira.  Harris Jiu Jitsu focuses on functional and innovative training methods for developing consistently repeatable skill sets, rather than victory by strength or aggression.  Professor Harris was a pioneer in utilizing curriculum based belt tests, employing leg locks "before they were cool" and creating sustainable training practices for participants over 40 years old.  

We specialize in safe, effective training methods that produce intellectual, efficient grapplers who can manage the many variables of training hard and maintaining control.  Our facility, staff, and students are female friendly, and are inviting to all who are willing to learn with us.

2.  EXPERT, DETAILED INSTRUCTION:  Our primary specialty, passed down from Professor Roy Harris, to Chris Martell, to the rest of our instructors is a legacy of incredibly technical, innovative instruction.  Professor Harris is known in the Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and Jeet Kune Do community as being one of the most technical practitioners and instructors in the world, and having achievements under his belt such as being one of the "Dirty Dozen," the first 12 non-Brazilian Black Belts in the world, as well as instructing world famous JKD practitioner Dan Inosanto and UFC fighter Jason Lambert. 

 

3.  SUSTAINABLE TRAINING METHODS:  Our second claim to fame is our safe and effective training style.  Though we have trained winning BJJ and MMA fighters, our primary goal is the life long enjoyment of the Art of Jiu Jitsu.  At other gyms, injuries such as broken noses, cauliflower ears, sprained joints, black eyes and broken ribs are considered commonplace.  At AMP, we know that you have a life to go back to outside of the gym.  Our safety record is impeccable, and we will get you back to your job, wife, kids, or other hobbies not just unbroken, but stronger and more confident.  

4.  GET IN SHAPE WHILE HAVING FUN:  Going to a regular gym is no fun.  It's mindless, lonely and boring.  At AMP, you will get in shape while learning a useful skill, relieve stress, gain a new family, and have tons of fun.  We hope you'll join us!

Coach Johnny Adams will get you started hitting like a truck. Whether for self defense, fitness, or simply for fun, you'll love learning to move, dodge, block and strike.
